Congratulations to Castle Downs Family YMCA’s long-time volunteer Neil Chymko (left), pictured below with the Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston. On Monday, April 24, the Governor General presented Neil with the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Neil has been volunteering in the Castle Downs neighbourhood for over 20 years, first as an instrumental part of the Castle Downs Recreational Society and later with the Castle Downs Family YMCA.

Some notable projects Neil has been a part of include the Flanders Field recognition site (highlighting the work of the YMCA “Poppy Ladies”) and the Castle Downs Spray Park and Playground (developed in 1996 and redeveloped in 2010-11).

Thank you, Neil, for giving back to your community, and congratulations once again.
