Bill Rees YMCA

13–19yrs

The YMCA’s Youth Transitions Program (YTP) is a free service focused on providing support to youth aged 13 – 19. Our team of Youth Advisors meet with youth from all walks of life to help them overcome their barriers, and support them in reaching their fullest potential.

Sky High is a two-week long summer program aimed at fostering resiliency, leadership, and community connection in Edmonton’s youth through the provision of life skill workshops and outdoor or recreational pursuits.  Sky High operates Monday – Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm with the last three days of the program culminating in an overnight camping trip.

During Sky High, youth will participate in workshops exploring topics such as: healthy relationships, healthy life style, self-esteem, social media awareness, employment and educational goals, communication, housing, problem solving, and team work.  Life skill topics are paired with engaging recreation and outdoor pursuit activities which may include hiking, paddle boarding, swimming, orienteering, rope courses, canoeing and camping.

This workshop is geared towards youth between 13-19 years of age, who would like to strengthen their existing skill set while meeting new people in a supportive environment.   Due to the limited number of spots within Sky High, all youth interested in Sky High are required to complete and submit a Sky High application package that will include a general information form, nomination form and behaviour agreement.  Application packages will be reviewed by YTP staff and participants will be notified if they have been selected.  Please contact the Youth Transitions Program for more information.

Like all YTP workshops, Sky High uses a multi-media approach to facilitation, using lectures, videos, scenarios, guest speakers, and other interactive methods to ensure every learner achieves a full grasp of the material presented.

In addition to the 2 weeks of summer program, participants attending the Sky High workshop will have access to a full range of other services provided by YTP including:

One-To-One Support

Youth Advisors are able to provide free supportive counselling, community referrals, advocacy services, life-skills workshops and job-search assistance. All youth who are connected to YTP have access to one of our three Youth Advisors who are able to meet with youth to create a plan to move the participant’s life in a positive direction.

YTP Rec Nights

The goal of the YTP Rec. Nights program is to introduce youth to recreational activities they may not normally get to experience. This free program meets once per week during after-school hours and provides an entertaining and safe place where youth are able to participate in new activities and make friends.

Additional Workshops

YTP offers a wide variety of additional workshops that can help meet the needs of our participants, including UnCenZered, Band of Brothers, How to Adult and Urban Youth Life Skills.
