According to current research, nearly 60% of Canadian adults are obese or overweight. Current health standards state that people need to exercise throughout the week to avoid chronic conditions such as: high blood pressure, heart attacks, diabetes, osteoporosis and so on. My goal is to help my fellow Canadians explore their passion toward exercise by guiding them in setting new goals, reaching those goals, and staying motivated to continue making progress. With the help of my Bachelors degree in Kinesiology and my YMCA-Personal Training Certificate, I can make you a periodization plan specific to you. Please just come and find me hanging around the fitness facility.

Since being a small child, I have always had a love for taking care of others. I always wanted to be a nurse. My grandmother gave me the nickname nurse Jenny. After graduating high school, I went into college to begin nursing, shortly into the program we were to do a cadaver lab, which was when I realized I didn’t have the guts to be a nurse. However, in those short months of school I had taken a nutrition course, so I pursued that line of helping others. That brought me up to Edmonton (2005) where I started the online Personal Training Program at NAIT. This career choice not only has given me the opportunity to help many people feel better about themselves physically and mentally, but it has helped me have a flexible life for my family.

I have always been into weight training, and found the love for body building back in my 20’s, it was not until this year that I was able find the time to train for my first Body Building show, I can officially say I know what it takes to do HARD things. My next competition is Provincials 2018.

Feel Free to ask me any questions regarding the YMCA or the fitness and lifestyle department.

It’s amazing to see what people can achieve through personal training. Every person who comes to the YMCA has a different goal that they want to achieve. That goal could be gaining muscle, losing weight, increasing flexibility and mobility, or any number of goals that improve the overall health and fitness of someone’s life. I love helping people achieve their goals through personal training, and group fitness classes.  I am here to motivate you, and give you the tools that you need to succeed. Together we will discuss your goals and how I can make that happen through implementing the right program created for your individual needs. With the right exercises, and the proper form and technique I will help you safely achieve your goals. Fitness is my passion; I would love to book a session with you.

  • Certified Personal Trainer CanFitPro
  • Certified in Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level HCP

  • Bachelor of Physical Education - Majored in Adapted Physical Education for Special Populations at the University of Alberta
  • Registered Recreational Therapist through ATRA (Alberta Therapeutic Recreational Association)
  • ACE- Alberta Cancer Education

At an early age, I was always active and passionate about health and fitness. It was only natural that my educational pursuits followed that path and I graduated with a Bachelors at the U of A in 2013, majoring in Adapted Physical Education. I also furthered my knowledge and become a registered Recreational Therapist with ATRA and started my career to help individuals set holistic goals for health and improvement within the mental health and aging populations sector. Of course, I couldn’t stop there! So, I continued my passion for knowledge (and with a little advice from friends and co-workers) became a certified Personal Trainer!

Looking back from my past experiences in Wellness Coordination, I have seen lives change! I consider myself blessed to be in this field of work, where I can learn even more, and be inspired (daily!) from the awesome people I train and interact with. Now that I am a new mother, I have even more incentive to help model a healthy lifestyle. Not just for my family, but for the community and family here at the YMCA!

I look forward to meeting you, while moving and improving!

  • YMCA Personal Fitness Trainer

As a child I was rarely active. This lifestyle carried on into my early 20s where I gained over 90lbs. In 2010, I discovered fitness and healthy living and went from 232 lbs to 129lbs. I was inspired to help others in similar situations and support them in achieving their own personal health & wellness goals.

I began training at the Don Wheaton YMCA in August 2014 as a part-time fitness coach providing individual fitness programs and eventually began personal training. Working with people of all fitness levels provides me with a profound sense of joy.

I love motivation and guiding my clients to reach their goals with my high energy and outgoing personality. When I’m not training my clients, I enjoy group fitness classes, such as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Max Strength and Boot Camp. I also enjoy running, and have completed multiple runs in 2017 including the Edmonton half marathon.

  • Trained by Manchester City FC for soccer, and later scouted to play at a semi-professional level in Manchester.

My passion for health and fitness started at a young age. I excelled in athletics and was involved in many sports. I soon found my calling in soccer. Over my youth years, through many battles of resistance and discouragement with friends, teammates and coaches on whether I would ever be a great player or not, I realized that I had control over my future and wanted to prove them wrong. Looking back, I realized that “one of the greatest pleasures in life is doing what others say you cannot do”. I took this mindset and went on to play in England, where I had the privilege to be trained by Manchester City FC, and later scouted to play at a semi-professional level in Manchester. I want to share this with you because many times we all get pushed down and discouraged, either by the people around us or ourselves, and through my experience exercise is one of the key elements which unlocks many doors for us to travel in next.

I am a firm believer in overcoming and becoming and if I get the opportunity to work with you, just know that exercise isn’t for the chosen few but for the few that choose. Together we can crush any fitness goal, and even if that goal seems distant, remember that it is not impossible; as the word itself says “I’m possible”. Let’s get started!
