The Edmonton YMCA Foundation is recruiting up to three new Directors to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Directors commencing in the Fall of 2017.

About The Edmonton YMCA Foundation:

The Edmonton YMCA Foundation Board oversees the management of a growing Endowment Fund with current total assets of $3.8 million.  The goal of the Foundation is to grow the endowment fund by asking individuals to consider making a gift to the foundation, and thereby, over time, growing the size of the foundation.  In addition, the Board is responsible to direct investment income from the fund towards the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Northern Alberta.

About YMCA of Northern Alberta

YMCA of Northern Alberta is a mission based charity, recognized for its vital role in strengthening community and dedicated to the development of thousands of people in spirit, mind, and body.  Our vision is strong kids, healthy families, and thriving communities.

Guided by our vision and grounded in our core values, the YMCA’s commitment to serve, learn, and renew has ensured our association’s relevance to a changing community for over 110 years.  The communities we envision ensure:

  • People experience better health and well-being in spirit, mind, and body
  • Individuals and families thrive and experience a sense of belonging
  • All children and youth are active, engaged, and healthy
  • All individuals and families have the opportunity to reach their potential
  • People respect diversity and social inclusion
  • People work together to strengthen the foundations of community

Each year a portion of the income earned on The Edmonton YMCA Foundation’s endowment is used to fund the following YMCA of Northern Alberta priorities:

  • Programs and services offered by YMCA of Northern Alberta to help individuals and families in need;
  • YMCA awards and scholarships, the criteria of which have been determined by the donor.

Any remaining income is reinvested in the Foundation’s fund for annual growth and, at the discretion of the Board, helps with administration costs of the Foundation, including fundraising costs.

The Edmonton YMCA Foundation Heritage Club

The Heritage Club recognizes people who have supported the Foundation’s endowment either through current gifts or by planning a gift to the Foundation through their estate.  Benefits of membership include:

  • Formal recognition and induction at the YMCA’s annual Thanks for Giving dinner
  • A framed certificate
  • Recognition in the Foundation’s annual report to the community and on the website
  • Bi-annual newsletters

This year we will be recruiting up to three new volunteers to serve on The Edmonton YMCA Foundation Board of Directors.  After a competency assessment and review, we are seeking individuals with strategic competencies to support the Foundation’s goal to grow the endowment through current and future gifts.  We are seeking individuals with one or more of the following:

  • A working knowledge of estate and tax planning
  • Senior leadership experience to help build relationships and open discussions
  • Personal commitment to strengthening our community and ensuring the future financial sustainability of YMCA of Northern Alberta

The YMCA embraces diversity; we seek candidates who reflect the communities we serve.  If you feel that you can contribute to our community through The Edmonton YMCA Foundation, please submit a cover letter, including your resume to:
