  • The Wildfires A Year Later: Lost Pets Remembered

    The YMCA’s Wildfire Pet Memorial Service helps Fort McMurray honour forgotten victims.

    On June 10, Fort McMurray residents gathered at Snye Park to grieve pets lost in the wild fire that raged through the city on May 3, 2016.

    Congratulations to Castle Downs Family YMCA’s long-time volunteer Neil Chymko (left), pictured below with the Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston. On Monday, April 24, the Governor General presented Neil with the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

    Enoch First Nation Chief and Council, educators, administrators, and most importantly the youth, were beside themselves with excitement on September 30th, 2016, to celebrate the ribbon cutting that officially opened their newly constructed bike park – largely inspired by marathon cyclist and advocator, Don Patterson.

    Castle Downs Family YMCA has received a generous gift of materials and labour from Achieve Concrete and Vivid Homes.  This in-kind donation will go towards supporting our facility upgrade through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, an initiative of the Government of Canada that is delivered by Western Economic Diversification Canada.
