YMCA Child & Family Development programs offer safe places where kids and families can exercise, play and socialize together. Whether you want to take up an activity with your child or encourage them to try something new, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

You can also share parenting resources and exchange ideas with other families in a friendly environment that’s open to everyone. Why not bring your loved ones to the Y and make some new connections today? Your living room just got a lot bigger.

Arts and Crafts

Encourage your little budding artists’ creativity through theme-based classes that include painting, drawing, cutting and pasting. During the session, classes may also include stories and songs. Each class will have a different theme.

Family Play – Parented

A drop in play group program for parents, infants and pre-school aged children. Activities include a coloring, crafts, parachute games, bouncy castle, dress up, obstacle courses and an imagination station with toys, books, puzzles, and more! Coffee, juice and light snacks provided!

Preschool Gym (0-6)

Develop your toddler’s sense of adventure as her or she experiments with gym equipment and discovers an artistic side with crafts. Gym activities will focus on balance, spatial awareness, movement, and safety skills. Participants will explore painting, drawing, cutting and gluing during the craft component.

Jr. Nature Agents

Do you love the outdoors? Our goal is to provide every child with the opportunity to experience adventure in an outdoor setting. Exploration of nature increases children’s creativity and imagination, while developing an appreciation for the world around them. Participants will do scavenger hunts, play games, create crafts, make friends, and have fun!

Parachute Games - Parented

Join us in the studio for a selection of fun and exciting parachute games. Each week will feature some new games, as well as some regular crowd favorites.

This is a great opportunity for parents, caregivers, or grandparents to drop in and enjoy social time with their children and other adults. Positively Scientific

Science Explorers

Children are invited to explore the wonders of science through our Science Explorers program. Each class will feature hands-on activities and experiments designed to stimulate the natural curiosity of the child.

Silly Science

Silly Science is geared for active and curious preschoolers. If your child has a passion for exploring and experimenting, they’ll have an outstanding time exploring the silly side of science. Learn about slimy creatures, oozing fluids, and other disgusting stuff. Come prepared to explore and get dirty.

Song and Dance - Parented

Encourage your child’s exploration of music through lively songs, rhythm and sounds. Your toddler’s experience will be further enhanced by dance, movement, and fun games to develop body and spatial awareness.

Sports and Games

Is your child crazy about sports? Let him or her try fun new games and sports that help improve movement and skill development. All sports will be adapted to meet your child’s needs and abilities. Each class will feature a different sports theme such as basketball, soccer, badminton, volleyball, golf and floor hockey. Appropriate indoor shoes are required.

Story Time - Parented

Develop your child’s love of stories through our interactive story telling program. Participants will enjoy stories, finger plays, puppets and nursery rhymes.

Y Chefs - Youth

Y Chefs (Youth) is designed to help teach healthy eating habits and provide high levels of nutrition following Canada's Food Guide. Youth will cook the food on site as their 'after school' snack.

Support 4 Kids Playgroup – Parented

A playgroup specifically designed for parents and children with special needs and exceptionalities. Coffee, juice and light snacks provided.

The Hub Family Support Program – Parented

The YMCA and The HUB Family Resource Centre are working together to expand programming for families and children in the Thickwood area by offering this program. This programprovides a safe environment for caregivers to come and participate in programming with their children, while learning, developing, and growing different fine motor skills.

Afterschool Learning Adventure

Afterschool Learning Adventure offers school aged children an opportunity to complete their homework and engage in other literacy, numeracy, and physical literacy games with the help of a facilitator. We provide a fun and comfortable social environment which encourages peer tutoring and promotes the importance of literacy and skill building through educational activities.

    The YMCA has enjoyed 110 years of serving the community!  We've certainly grown since 1907, with 1600+ employees, 600+ volunteers, 20 community program locations, 3 housing services sites, 71 child care programs and 9 service and program centres.

    We can't wait for another 100 years of seeing the potential in everyone!
