2018 YMCA Youth Exchange: Edmonton, AB
From March 23 to 30, youth participants from the YMCA of Northern Alberta Leaders in Training Program hosted the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s Youth Leadership Program from Innisfil, Ontario through the YMCA’s Youth Exchanges Program.
Throughout the week-long stay, participants heard from YMCA of Northern Alberta President and CEO, Nick Parkinson and toured the City of Edmonton; visiting, the University of Alberta main campus, the Alberta Legislature and meeting Edmonton-Castle Downs MLA, Nicole Goehring. The exchange group also made their way through the Rocky Mountains, stopping in Banff, Alberta.
From May 25-June 1, Edmonton youth traveled to Ontario, exploring the City of Barrie and Town of Innisfil. LIT participants also attended a mental health summit, monkeyed around in a high ropes course and made everlasting memories.
The YMCA Youth Exchanges Program aims to “help young Canadians connect,” “create links throughout the country”, and “contribute to improved knowledge and understanding of Canada among Canadian youth.” “The Government of Canada, through Exchanges Canada, a part of the Department of Canadian Heritage, provides financial assistance for this program.”
Thank you to all of our in-kind donors who supported the YMCA of Northern Alberta’s Leaders in Training program’s host week in part of their national exchange.
