Have fun, make friends and prepare for the real world!

Make friends, learn valuable skills and prepare for the real world by joining the Leader-in-Training (LIT) program, a ten-month program for youths. Have fun with your peers in exciting team-building activities and build your resume by participating in rewarding volunteer opportunities that teach skills and benefit the local community.


LIT is a leadership program for youths in grades 7 to 12. It is a ten-month program where participants gain valuable experience and make a positive impact on the local community through volunteering.

LIT participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop group work skills.
  • Take on leadership roles.
  • Help to plan, organize and run special events.
  • Work with different people in a welcoming environment.
  • Participate in social activities and special events.

Program activities include:

  • Volunteering in YMCA programs and at special events.
  • Participating in group fundraisers and special events.
  • Attending weekly meetings.

Please note that the LIT program runs from September to June (breaks during the holidays).

Program Highlights:

Registration Fee:

  • $72 for YMCA members/$130 for public (for the full ten months).

Please note all interested youth must complete an interview process before their registeration is finalized for this program.

    Become a Counsellor in Training (CITs)

    Volunteer as a Counsellor-in-Training! This is a leadership opportunity for youth to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a camp counsellor. Including training and a two week placement, participants will be placed in different day camp programs based on their experience in the CIT Program and the ‘Leaders-in-Training’ (LITs) program.

    Want to make a difference in your community with the YMCA? The YLAC meets to discuss increasing awareness and involvement of young adults within the YMCA of Northern Alberta and in the local and global communities related to our Strategic Plan.

    Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

    We are looking for motivated and dedicated youth to join the YMCA of Northern Alberta Youth Advisory Council.  As part of this representative group, youth will be able to share their opinions on various issues that affect Edmonton youth, especially at the YMCA.
