While attending Grant MacEwan University, I discovered their workout facility; a totally foreign concept to me. Not athletically inclined, I ventured into the gym because I was paying for it whether I used it or not. As a super nervous introvert, I was extremely glad that their gym was virtually empty at 6 in the morning.  A very kind Australian personal trainer provided me with my very first training program and I was smitten. Not being a competitive person, I enjoyed the aspect of doing my personal best each day without the added pressure of competitive team sports.

I took a course in canoeing and kayaking with a brilliantly hairy, bearded wilderness man, loved it and chose to pursue a Bachelor of Physical Education degree with a major in outdoor pursuits.

My Health & Wellness Thoughts…
Health; wellness and fitness doesn’t begin and end with the physical body, it has many shapes, sizes, ages
and abilities. To live a good quality of life. Maintain ones’ independence as you age. A peaceful mind. A positive outlook. Laughter. Balance. Moderation. Strength. Flexibility. Living pain free.

Physical activity doesn’t have to be a gruesome drudgery. It doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. It can be progressive and gentle. Intense and sweaty. Some groaning and laughter and perhaps a few choice words along the way. It’s never too late to build your health, learn something new and have some fun along the way.

The will to win, the desire to success, the urge to reach your full potential...these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology U of A
  • YMCA Personal Fitness Trainer

I was first exposed to fitness at a young age.  My mother would jump rope for 45 minutes every morning, and lift weights multiple times a week.  This intrigued me, and soon enough I was trying some of the exercises she was doing.

I have always been active.  From bike riding, to playing various sports, physical activity has been an important pillar in my life.  I started to get serious with lifting weights when I was 15 years old, and I haven’t looked back since.

My passion for fitness led me to choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta.  I believe in a science-based approach to fitness in which my clients can feel confident in what they are learning as it is backed by trusted research.  Health and wellness should be accessible to everyone.  If you are new to fitness, I urge you to put your trust in me.

As a YMCA Personal Trainer, I will assist you in reaching your wellness goals by providing safe and effective exercise advice that is backed by science. I will help you stay accountable to your goals, encourage and support you in achieving health in mind, body and spirit.

STRENGTH does not come from physical capacity.  It comes from an indomitable will.

As a kid, I was considered overweight compared to my siblings and other children my age. Even though I became more active as a teenager playing soccer, I still struggled with my weight. I had a hard time finding other physical activities that I was good at, which used to make me feel unsuccessful.

It wasn’t until I moved to Canada for university that I discovered my interests in dancing and strength training. Now I have found a way to incorporate these passions into group fitness classes and personal training. I find so much joy in creating opportunities for people to have fun and feel successful. I would like to share some of the things that I’ve learned on my fitness journey to help motivate and encourage others to live healthier lifestyles.

I believe that hard work and consistency within personally enjoyable activities are necessary to achieve any goal, and my objective as a trainer is to teach people valuable skills so that they can build the habits to succeed at maintaining an active lifestyle long-term.

As a child, I was rarely active.  This lifestyle carried on into my early 20s where I gained over 90lbs.  In 2010, I discovered fitness and healthy living.  I went from weighing 232lbs to 129lbs.  I was inspired to help others in similar situations and support them in achieving their own personal health and wellness goals

I began training at Don Wheaton YMCA in August 2014 as a part-time fitness coach providing individual fitness programs, then eventually began personal training.  Working with people of all fitness levels provides me with a profound sense of joy.  I love motivating and guiding my clients to reach their fitness and nutrition goals with my high energy and outgoing personality.

When I’m not training my clients, I enjoy running.  In 2019, I will be completing my first destination race.
