COVID-19 - Temporary restrictions on group fitness
The Government of Alberta announced new restrictions to help control the spread and risk of COVID-19 in our province.
Please note that no YMCA facilities are closing.
As the health and safety of our Y community is our highest priority, we are committed to following all Alberta Health Services guidelines.
Effective November 13, 2020, the following programs will be suspended until November 28, 2020:
- All group fitness classes
- Group open gym (except pickleball and badminton — see below)
- Squash and racquetball
- Swimming lessons
- Swim Club and Junior Lifeguard Club
- Children's registered recreational sport programs
As we continue to work with Alberta Health Services to understand the restrictions and the safest way to provide important physical activity and recreation opportunities to our community, we will keep you updated of any changes.
If you are registered in any of these programs, and you pay a fee above membership, we will provide you with a credit on your account for you to use in the future. We will apply this credit after November 27, when we can confirm that there will be no further public health restrictions that impact these programs. Please note that the only exception will be our $10 members-only children’s sports and recreation programs — no credits or refunds will be provided.
We know that this temporary cancellation is disappointing to you, and we appreciate your understanding. It’s our goal to keep as many activities and service areas open to you as we are safely allowed, so that you can remain physically active and connected to your community.
We’re happy to serve you with the following programs and services that will remain unaffected by these restrictions:
- Fitness centre use
- Booked pickleball and badminton court use (singles only)
- Booked member family swim
- Booked lane swim and aqua jog
- Registered certification courses (under 15 participants)
- Registered children's Science Explorers — Northside Community Centre only
- Children and youth after school drop-in programs with reduced capacity (no sports activities) — Northside Community Centre only
Thank you again for your understanding. As we continue to work with Alberta Health Services to understand the restrictions and the safest way to provide important physical activity and recreation opportunities to our community, we will keep you updated of any changes.
