YMCA Giving - Impact Stories

When you give during YMCA Month of Giving, you can...

  • Help newcomers like Jane belong and thrive

“When you are a newcomer, even a smile can change your day. I felt anxious about being in a new community and new country, and the second I stepped into the Y, I felt settled. To me, The YMCA is my family." Those are the words of  Jane Njoroge, Coordinator for YMCA's Foreign Worker Program as shares her story of coming to Canada from Kenya and finding community at the Y.

  • Help youth like Simi rebuild their lives

Every day, at-risk youth face barriers and struggle to find the support they need. The YMCA offers affordable housing, family support, and employment services to help our community's most vulnerable people. Eight years ago, Simi was a single mother to a 3-month-old, living in a women's shelter. Today, she has rebuilt her life through YMCA programs.

  • Help make communities like Fort McMurray strong

Over the last four years, Ahmed Salman, Program Coordinator for YMCA's Immigration Settlement Services in Wood Buffalo, has seen the Y lead initiatives to provide relief in Fort McMurray following the devastation of the wildfires, flooding, and now the pandemic. Ahmed shares how the Y has helped countless members tap into their potential and exemplify the power of community.
