Updated Health and Services Information For Members

April 8, 2021

Dear valued YMCA members,

This past week, the Government of Alberta announced the mandatory return to Stage 1 restrictions province-wide.

While we had originally hoped that YMCA facilities would remain open, we have since made the decision to temporarily close our Edmonton Health and Wellness Centres in order to keep our communities safe and healthy during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective Saturday, April 10 at 4pm, the following YMCA facilities will be closed:

While we do not yet have a reopening date for these Health and Wellness Centres, please note that YMCA Child Care centres and Community Programs and Housing Services will remain open.

All active YMCA memberships will be automatically put on hold until our reopening date. There is no action required to put your membership on hold. All memberships that are currently scheduled to reactivate during our closure will likewise be placed on hold until our reopening.

Upon reopening, all memberships that were scheduled to come off of hold during our temporary closure will be reactivated.

Additionally, all registration and start dates for children's sports, swimming lessons, and swim clubs will be paused and delayed until our Health and Wellness Centres are reopened. However, registration for Summer Camps and Clubs remains open.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding YMCA membership during our temporary closure

  • I received communication that if I did not put my membership on hold or cancel before April 16th, my membership payments would resume on April 19. Is this still the case even though you are closed?
    • A: If you don’t extend your hold or cancel your membership by April 16, your membership will automatically be put on hold as of April 19 and will automatically reactivate when we reopen.

  • My membership is currently active. Do I need to do anything to put my membership on hold?
    • A: No, your membership has automatically been put on hold and will reactivate when the YMCA reopens.

  • Will my membership reactivate automatically when the YMCA reopens?
    • A: If your membership was active as of the day we closed, or, is scheduled to reactivate while we are closed, your membership will automatically reactivate when we reopen.

  • I pay bi-weekly and have recently had a payment come out for a two-week period. How will the YMCA credit me for the days I was not able to use prior to the closure?
    • A: Upon our reopening, your membership will be extended by the number of days you are owed before your next payment is taken. For example, if you paid one day before our closure, you will receive 13 days of membership before your next billing cycle.

  • My membership is currently on hold. What happens if it is scheduled to reactivate while the YMCA is still closed?
    • A: If your membership is scheduled to come off hold while we are closed, your hold will be automatically extended until the day we reopen.

  • My membership is currently on hold. What happens if the YMCA reopens before my current hold is set to expire? Will my membership reactivate when the YMCA reopens?
    • A: No. If your membership is scheduled to come off of hold after we reopen, your membership will resume upon your original return date and will not automatically reactivate when the YMCA reopens.
