Select YMCA Health and Wellness Centres are set to reopen June 2021

Dear Valued YMCA Members,


YMCA of Northern Alberta is excited to announce that Edmonton and Red Deer YMCA Health and Wellness Centres will be reopening as the Government of Alberta moves to Stage 2 of the Open for Summer Plan.


Stage 2 will take effect on June 10, 2021, and allows indoor fitness programs and services across the province to resume with physical distancing. Select YMCA Health and Wellness Centres in Edmonton and Red Deer will be open for in-person services on Thursday, June 17, 2021.

YMCA Health and Wellness Centre Reopening


The following YMCA Health and Wellness Centres will be reopening on Thursday, June 17, 2021, with hours of operation at each centre noted:
 

  • Castle Downs Family YMCA
    • Monday to Friday - 7:00am to 8:00pm
    • Saturday - 8:00am to 4:00pm
    • Sundays & Statutory Holidays - CLOSED
       
  • Jamie Platz Family YMCA
    • Monday to Friday - 6:00am to 8:00pm
    • Saturday - 8:00am to 4:00pm
    • Sundays & Statutory Holidays - CLOSED
       
  • William Lutsky Family YMCA
    • Monday to Friday - 6:00am to 8:00pm
    • Saturday - 8:00am to 4:00pm
    • Sundays & Statutory Holidays - CLOSED
       
  • Northside Community Centre
    • This centre will open 15 minutes prior to your registered program or activity.


Due to work-from-home recommendations and an anticipated slower return to the Edmonton Downtown Core, the Don Wheaton Family YMCA will reopen on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.


The Boyle Street Community Centre will be reopening for facility rentals on July 5, 2021.


Eagle Ridge Community Centre in the Wood Buffalo region will open for YMCA Summer Camp and Clubs this July.

Public Health Guidelines During the YMCA’s Reopening


While we are excited to reopen our doors during Phase 2 of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan, we will still be adhering to, or exceeding Alberta public health guidelines including the following:
 

  • Masks will be required upon entering all YMCA facilities, in locker rooms, and when travelling to and from activity or program spaces.
     
  • 2 meters of physical distance must be maintained at all times, except during sport participation.
     
  • PLUS member locker rooms will be open, however, there will be no shared amenities and masks must be worn at all times. Hot tubs and steam rooms will be open with capacity limits posted.
     
  • To adhere to physical distancing and capacity guidelines, pre-booking will be required for group fitness classes, lane swimming (Edmonton only), and family swimming (Edmonton only).

  • Members and participants will be required to complete health screening checks prior to entry by visiting northernalberta.ymca.ca/screening.

Information Regarding YMCA Membership in Edmonton


Your membership will automatically reactivate on the date which your YMCA Health and Wellness Centre reopens, provided that:
 

  1. Your membership was active at the time of our closure on Saturday, April 10, 2021, or,
     
  2. Your membership hold has expired since our closure on Saturday, April 10, 2021, and has not been extended.


If your membership is currently on hold and the hold date extends past the reopening date of your YMCA Health and Wellness Centre, your membership will automatically be reactivated once your hold expires.


If you wish to reactivate your on-hold membership, please visit northernalberta.ymca.ca/online once we reopen, or contact contactcentre@northernalberta.ymca.ca for assistance.


Please note that all Don Wheaton Family YMCA memberships which were active at the time of our previous closure on April 10, 2021, or all those memberships which were on hold and due to expire prior to our reopening date will remain on hold until the Don Wheaton Family YMCA reopens on September 7, 2021.


No action is required unless you wish to extend your hold beyond September 7, 2021, or cancel your membership. If you wish to access another YMCA Health and Wellness Centre, please visit northernalberta.ymca.ca/online to activate your membership, or contact contactcentre@northernalberta.ymca.ca for assistance.

Returning Programs and Services in Edmonton


Please note that all YMCA locations will continue to operate in accordance with the Government of Alberta’s mask and physical distancing guidelines. The YMCA is dedicated to ensuring the health and safety of our members, participants, community members, staff and volunteers. We will continue to meet or exceed Alberta Health public guidelines to help limit the spread of COVID-19 upon reopening.


We look forward to offering many of the YMCA programs and services you love upon reopening including group fitness classes! In order to register for group fitness classes and other available programs, please book online by visiting northernalberta.ymca.ca/online.


YMCA Summer Camps and Clubs are back, and registration is open! Register your kids today for the best summer ever at northernalberta.ymca.ca/campsandclubs.

Swim lessons are back for the July 5, 2021 to August 28, 2021 season. To help keep our communities healthy and safe, masks will be required in transition zones. Please come swim-ready to limit time spent in locker rooms. Registration for swim lessons opens at 12:00 AM on June 17, 2021. Visit northernalberta.ymca.ca/swimlessons to learn more. Please note that this is a new session, so no previous swim lesson registrations will be carried over. Your child’s YMCA membership must be active at the time of registration, otherwise, you will be unable to register your child in swimming lessons.

Please note that the Northside Community Centre will continue to operate in accordance with the Government of Alberta’s mask and physical distancing guidelines. The YMCA is dedicated to ensuring the health and safety of our participants, community members, staff and volunteers. We will continue to meet or exceed Alberta Health public guidelines to help limit the spread of COVID-19 upon reopening.


We look forward to offering the following YMCA programs and services upon reopening:
 

  • Indoor group fitness (registered)
     
  • Youth drop-in centre
     
  • Youth outdoor recreation (NEW)
     
  • Skatepark mentorship program (NEW)
