What is Pickleball?

Pickleball combines elements of badminton, tennis, and ping pong (table tennis). Played on a court the size of double's badminton, but with a net similar to tennis (mounted two inches lower), the game uses paddles and hollow polymer wiffle balls.

Players have a choice of playing in singles or doubles matches. The game is easy to learn, has great social aspects built in, and involves lots of laughter.
It’s more fun than tennis: scoring makes sense, and the smaller courts mean more action, no yelling to be heard, and better teamwork through clearer body language and facial cues.

The design of the wiffle ball means getting hit is usually just funny and definitely means more time playing and far less time spent chasing down the ball. The paddle and balls are easier to control and allow for greater strategy.

For beginners there is a much faster learning curve, as any experience you have in ping pong, racquetball, tennis or badminton transfers over easily, but the game will continuously challenge as you and your team develop skills, abilities, and more advanced tactics.

Pickleball lowers blood pressure, boosts immune system, reduces stress, improves mental acuity, and can easily be played both outdoors or indoors (during wet or cold weather).

Strange name but a truly fun game for all ages and stages. Try Pickleball at the YMCA today for some mind, body, and spirited competition!
