Make friends and learn valuable skills by joining the Leaders in Training (LIT) program.

Leaders in Training, also known as LIT, is a leadership program for youth in grades 7 to 12. A nine-month program will include fun in team-building activities, rewarding volunteer opportunities that teach leadership skills and workshops by local community leaders that provide relevant and practical application for youth development and inspiration in leadership growth.



Program staff work with participants to

  • Develop group work skills
  • Take on leadership roles
  • Help to plan, organize and run special events
  • Participate in social activities and special events

Participants also

  • Volunteer in YMCA programs and a special events
  • Participate in group fundraisers and special events
  • Attending weekly meetings



The LIT program runs from September to June (breaks during the holidays). The LIT program is currently available in the Edmonton Region at the Castle Downs Family YMCA, Jamie Platz Family YMCA and the William Lutsky Family YMCA.

Applications for the 2022-2023 program year open on August 9, 2022, at northernalberta.ymca.ca/Register! Once registered, a program staff member will connect with the applicant using your account contact information. Please note all interested youth must submit an application before their registration is finalized for this program.
