YMCA offers a variety of youth support programs and leadership opportunities that develop life skills, education enrichment, health and wellness, recreation and international awareness. These lifelong skills can be applied in communities now and in the future.
Afterschool Learning Adventures
Develop character, commitment to community service and leadership skills. This is a weekly program for students aged 7 to 11 and is offered in Grande Prairie. There is no fee to participate in this program. Program offered during the school year.
Designed as an out-of-school intervention, Alternative Suspension establishes bonds of trust and creates a support network of groups of students that assists in addressing suspension and/or temporary expulsion issues while supporting a consistent and strong academic focus.
Youth aged 9 to 15 are welcome to drop in and relax, play games and connect with friends at the YMCA Youth Centre located at the Northside Community Centre in Red Deer and Eagle Ridge Community Centre in Wood Buffalo.
YMCA Counsellor in Training
The Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) program is a leadership opportunity for youth, who has completed Grade 7, to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a camp counsellor.
YMCA Leaders in Training
Youth in Grades 7 to 12 learn about community service, philanthropy, volunteerism and health and wellness as they plan and implement projects to help their communities.
YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada (YEC)
YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada (YEC) program provides youth aged 12 to 17 with the opportunity to explore Canada while learning leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, all while developing a strong sense of community.
Youth Transition Program (YTP)
YTP offers youth a safe, supportive, non-judgmental community to learn about available community services, meet new friends and participate in fun activities and find housing and jobs support.
