The Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) program is a unique volunteer opportunity for youth in grades 7 to 12 to develop the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to become a YMCA camp counsellor and leader for life!

Participants gain valuable experince though the CIT interview process, training and two-week placement at a YMCA Day Camp.
  • Level 1 - The CIT program is designed for participants to acquire necessary skills to become a counsellor, including planning and delivering activities, observing campers in various age groups, asset building, communication, and trust.
  • Level 2 - The second level of the CIT program enhances skills learned in Level 1. Participants will learn new skills including team building, behaviour management, and safety awareness.
  • Level 3 - The third level of the CIT program builds on the previous levels and prepares participants for the step from CIT to counsellor while learning skills such as conflict resolution, leadership, and special-needs integration.
CIT is offered at YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics Centres in the Edmonton Region and Wood Buffalo, and at the Northside Community Centre in Red Deer.

Note: CIT program is only available during the summer school break.
