YMCA Summer Camps

YMCA Summer Camps provide participants between the ages of 3–15 years a structured day of activities that can include outdoor games, fundamental movement skill development, crafts and more.

Camp days run from 8:30am–4:30pm, with pre-and post-care available from the following times, depending on location:

  • Edmonton region: 7:30am–8:30am and 4:30pm–5:30pm
  • Red Deer & Wood Buffalo regions: 8-8:30am and 4:30-5pm

YMCA Camps are run by trained camp counsellors out of YMCA Health and Wellness centres.

YMCA Summer Clubs

YMCA Summer Clubs allow participants between the ages of 5–12 years* to create their own day with their educator and enjoy a cozy, small group environment where snacks are provided. YMCA Summer Clubs are run by certified YMCA Child Care Educators out of select YMCA Child Care centres in Edmonton, Grande Prairie and Wood Buffalo regions. Alberta child care subsidy and the new federal-provincial Child Care Affordability Grant may be available for families who qualify.

Unlike Summer Camps, our Clubs run from 7am–6pm. All children must be 5 years old as of January 1, 2021, and have completed their kindergarten year.

For children who have completed grade one, you can register for YMCA Summer Clubs online!

Safety

Our Safety Commitment

Participant Safety

We are fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children in our care. To keep our participants and staff safe and healthy this summer, the YMCA will meet or exceed all provincial health guidelines and requirements, which include enhanced cleaning, hand washing and physical distancing.

Parents and guardians will be given all the information they need to feel comfortable and safe before their child's first day of camp or club.

Value-Based Approach

Value beads promote positive behaviour and are worn to show what we value as a Y community. Throughout a participant's week, value beads will be awarded to individuals for demonstrating friendship, caring, honesty, diversity, social inclusion, responsibility, respect, leadership and excellence.

Our Y Family

At the YMCA, we understand that children and youth need positive peer and adult relationships in their lives. All YMCA staff and volunteers are carefully selected based on their leadership potential, enthusiasm, experiences, and ability to role model YMCA values.

All staff members have completed camp and club training, which includes safety and emergency training, standard first aid and CPR, WHMIS, behaviour management, physical literacy (NCCP FMS) and child protection. Staff are also required to pass a Police Security Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Search.

Cancellations and Questions

Cancellations

Should the Government of Alberta restrict or cancel camps and clubs due to COVID-19 public health orders and guidelines, or a participant contracts COVID-19 prior to coming to their program, a full refund will be issued. In the event public health orders and guidelines are changed, the YMCA will ensure program participants are notified about the changes in their camp experience. Summer Club programs operating out of licensed child care centres will follow the guidelines outlined for child care centres.

Full refunds will be issued if requested prior to June 13. Requests after June 12 will incur a $25 processing fee per registration.

Questions?

If you need assistance with your online account, online registration or if you have more questions about our Camp and Club experience, our team is available to help you at contactcentre@northernalberta.ymca.ca or by contacting a YMCA near you.
